Tuesday, June 23rd 2009. TECHAFFAIR was fortunate to have been invited to the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network / YNPN’s “Career Path Event” featuring eight-time designee as one of the nonprofit nation’s "Fifty Most Influential People," Jan Masaoka. In 2003 she was named "Nonprofit Executive of the Year" by Nonprofit Times. In 2005 Masaoka was named “California Community Leader of the Year” by Leadership California.

Masaoka authored The Best of the Board Café (Fieldstone Press) and All Hands on Board: The Board of Directors in All-Volunteer Organizations (BoardSource). Her research work includes studies on nonprofit leadership, women executive directors of color, all-volunteer organizations, and the nonprofit workforce. She is a frequent speaker and contributor to nonprofit journals. Currently, she is the Director and Editor-in-Chief of Blue Avocado (blueavocado.org).

The YNPN tagline: "Now is the ideal time to identify your goals, invest in yourself and envision your career path!"

The evening was divided into two sessions – the group of nearly fifty young, non-profit professionals brought questions and attended two of the following information tracks:

  1. Tools for Effective Leadership and Management
  2. Creating Upward Mobility for Your Career
  3. Getting Ready to Make the Leap to Self-Employment
  4. Promoting Yourself in Any Nonprofit Career
  5. Graduate Programs for a Career in Nonprofit

Tons of opportunity to connect with experts and other peers who shared similar interests and experiences. TECHAFFAIR recommends YNPN events for individuals of all experience and skill levels looking to refine and/or hone in on their non-profit career goals.
